ABOUT DATUM SURVEYS LTD.
Datum Surveys Ltd. was established in 1977 by founder Harvey Tetzlaff. A graduate of the Geomatics engineering course at SAIT ( 1969 – 1971) Harvey taught the junior surveyors course for the CAGC when that program was still active. Harvey was also the author of various software applications for conventional surveys (sunshot, offset routines, 3d corrections, datum conversions etc.) that are still in use today in conventional surveys. Datum was the prime survey contractor for Norcen Energy Resources (1979) seismic exploration activities and all the future companies that it evolved into up until 2006 (Anadarko). Datum was of the first to introduce the use of fluorescent tags to the industry in 1999 and upgraded them to Neon tags in 2003. (70% more visible at night than fluorescent but much more costly). We have recently (2010) developed a process for implementing computer generated tag numbers. This has all but eliminated tag numbering errors. More importantly however, it has overcome the issue of poor handwriting which has in the past lead to many mistakes in reading the tag numbers by the shooters and drillers. Datum also developed a set of computerized chaining notes (2003) that have become widely used in the industry today. We welcome any questions you may have about any of the aforementioned as well as any special concerns outside the scope of this brief history.
